Austin City Limits - Day 1

Well, here I am at ACL, thanks to SBC/Yahoo. Now if I could just throw this laptop in my backpack, I'd be set.

I rolled in right about 12:15, just in time to catch the Damnations. They sounded really good live, I need to pick up their latest CD and try to see them the next time they're playing a club rather than an open stage. From there I went slightly east to the Cap Metro stage and saw Cody ChesnuTT. He was ok, but spent too much time grooving and not enough rockin. I wouldn't mind hearing an album of his, though.

From there I headed back west to the H.E.B. stage and saw the Particle show. I think they managed to fit four songs in their hour...I'm usually not a big jam band fan, but they had a solid set and their keyboard player made the show worth watching.

I'm here now because Liz Phair failed to rock my ass. She is playing a lot of mellow stuff and generally boring me. From here I'm going to see W.C. Clark, Leftover Salmon, Robert Earl Keen, and Al Green. That should make up for the slack in the early part of the day and send me home happy.

What was the best band you saw?

Much rain?

Better/ worse than other venues?

The rain wasn't bad, but I wasn't there Saturday which was the wettest day.

My favorite act was probably Ben Harper on Sunday. He made the most of his hour and also got Robert Randolph onstage for an incredible guest jam. I wish I'd heard more of Galactic Friday, not paying enough attention to them is my biggest regret.

Zilker was a great place to have it, and it was set up very well. Except for the $4 Lone Star.
