Anyhow, a meme (in the internet sense) is one of those ideas or topics that just takes on a life of its own due to repeated copying, posting, sharing, etc. Think of "All Your Base" or the Star Wars kid.
I just finished re-reading "Snow Crash" so when I encountered the above text it dug right in.
